Mount Pleasant man arrested for burglary, arson after Sunday morning fire

Mount Pleasant Police Department:

MOUNT PLEASANT (KYTX) - Mount Pleasant man arrested for arson and burglary after allegedly setting television station on fire.

On Sunday August 25, 2013 at approximately 2:21 AM, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to a fire located at 116 W. 3rd St in downtown Mount Pleasant. The location is known as the KMPL-TV 36 satellite station site for FVP Network.

As fire personnel were working to put out the fire, a firefighter from the Mount Pleasant Fire Department observed a Hispanic male watching. When fire officials tried to approach the subject to see if he saw anything, he ran from the location. Police were called to the scene and were give a description of the subject and general location where he ran.

Shortly thereafter Mount Pleasant Police officers located Edvardo Antonio Rodriguez, 23 of Mount Pleasant on Washington St., just a few blocks from the scene. Rodriguez matched the description given by the Mount Pleasant Fire Department.

Upon further investigation, it was learned the business had been broken into and set on fire from the inside. Police also found the business next door, Chiropractic Wellness Center, had also been burglarized. Police officers located property on Rodriguez' person that had been stolen from both businesses linking Rodriguez to the crime scene.

FVP Network suffered extensive fire and smoke damage and Chiropractic Wellness Center suffered property damage due to the burglary.

Edvardo Rodriguez was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary of a Building (State Jail Felony), Arson (Second Degree Felony), and Public Intoxication (Class C Misdemeanor). As of Monday morning, Rodriguez's bail had not been set.
