15 Children Die Every Year at Bus Stops

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Thousands of East Texan Children boarded hundreds of yellow buses Monday, for the first day of school.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 15 children a year are killed while at a bus stop. 5 are killed by being hit by other cars, and 10 are killed by being hit by the bus itself.
Longview Police Spokeswoman Debra Stiles says children should be aware at the bus stop, wear bright colors, and be in the range of the drivers sight at all times.  She also says that police around the state, enforce the laws of going around a school bus.
