ANGELINA COUNTY (KYTX) - An ex East Texas correctional officer is behind bars following a 3 month investigation of unlawful conduct.

Former Angelina County jailer Stevon E. Crowder, 53 of Lufkin, was arrested Monday night for 13 charges of which eight counts were for official oppression and five were for civil rights violation.

The investigation began on May 20, 2013 as a result of an outcry by female inmates housed in the Angelina County Jail.

Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches tells CBS 19, the investigation involved the Angelina County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division and the local Texas Ranger receiving numerous sworn statements from inmates and coworkers.

Crowder's bond is $24,500. He was initially taken to the Angelina County Jail but has since been transported for his protection to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
