Tyler (KYTX) -- The list is out of the fastest-growing jobs in America, and some of them may surprise you. If you've ever thought about working in the skin care industry, now is as good a time as any.

"The advanced products and procedures that have come along in the aesthetic field, it doesn't surprise me at all that it's growing," Leanne Volkert, a certified cosmetologist at Style Salon in Tyler, said.

Skin care specialists are number 10 on the list of fastest-growing jobs in the U.S. according to employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics comparing occupations from 2002 to 2012.

Volkert specializes in facials, peels, and microdermabrasion. "It's the mildest medical spa procedure. And if you don't know what you're doing, you could actually hurt someone," Volkert said.

She traveled to Dallas to be certified for the procedure and also holds her cosmetology degree.

The broad realm of interpreters comes in at number 4.

"Some people think it's a piece of cake, but it's really not. It's complicated and difficult," Rhonda McKinzie, Dept. Chair of Tyler Junior College's Sign Language Interpreting Program, said.

The two-year program at TJC is growing. "We just can't keep up with it because they need to be qualified," McKinzie said.

McKinzie says most agencies require you to be state-certified to work at places like hospitals and corporations.

Coming in at number 1 on the list is service unit operators-- or those working in oil, gas, and mining extraction.
