(KYTX) - Eight cases of Dengue Fever have been found in Florida. They're linked to mosquitoes in that region.

The cases were reported in two Southeastern Florida counties, Martin and Miami-Dade.

Dengue acquired from local mosquitoes is rare in the United States. Dengue is most common in Asia and India.

"In order to get Dengue Fever, have to be bitten by a mosquito that has the Dengue virus in them. At this time we dont' have Dengue in our area of East Texas"

The World Health Organization estimates that there are between 50 million and 100 million infections each year.

Health officials urge people to take steps, like wearing repellent to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses.
