We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Tyler native and Dist. 4 City Councilman Martin Heines, on Friday, announced he would run for mayor in May 2014, replacing Mayor Barbara Bass, who has held that post since 2008.

"I really love volunteering for the city," Heines, 50, said on Friday, of his decision to run for mayor. He has served on the city council since 2010. The small business owner and property manager/investor has worked in various city volunteer positions in addition to his service on the council, including being chairman of the University of Texas at Tyler's Small Business Institute and as a member of the Mayor's Tyler Leadership Roundtable.

Mayor Bass is unable to run for the office again because of term limits, but said being Tyler's mayor is the greatest blessing she has ever had. "I have had the opportunity to work with phenomenal council members, city employees and community volunteers," she said in a prepared statement.  "By working together, we have continued to build on our strong, conservative foundation as we position Tyler for the future," the mayor said.

Heines is a graduate of Leadership Tyler Class 15, chaired the Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee in 2001 and 2002 and was a member of the Chamber's Vision 2000 and Vision 2010 Committees.

In 2007, he and his wife, Michelle Tyler Heines, renovated the building at 116 W. Erwin St. to create Balance Studio. It was awarded the Texas Downtown Association's statewide award for Adaptive Re-use.

Heines and his wife have a son and a daughter and attend the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
