LETU students learn to make their own printers

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) -  First-year  engineering students at one East Texas school will never have to go to an electronics store for a 3D printer. By Thanksgiving they can build their own.

Today Letourneau University Professor Dr. James French gave intro to engineering students their first lesson in building a 3D printer.

It will take students nearly three months each to build their own machine.

"I am so excited because this is going to be so cool. I can put this up in my dorm room and just design away on SolidWorks, and print anything that I want out."

Dr. French suggests each of his 170 students make his or her own printer, but students are allowed to work in teams.
