Breast cancer survivors invited to free retreat at ETMC

East Texas Medical Center:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - The ETMC Breast Care Center is holding a free, one-day retreat for breast cancer survivors on Friday, Oct. 4, featuring Shakha Stephens, a certified laughter yoga teacher and staff chaplain at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

The ETMC Pink Ribbon Getaway will be held at the ETMC Pavilion, 801 Clinic Drive, in Tyler, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the conference concluding at 2 p.m. The conference is supported by Junior League of Tyler, Susan G. Komen and the ETMC Foundation.

The event will feature topics such as a physician panel discussion, healthy eating tips presented by Brookshires, lymphedema management, share your story session, a gourmet lunch and door prizes. Coldwater Creek will present a fashion show.

The keynote luncheon speaker uses a new worldwide movement called laughter yoga that emphasizes health and wellness through laughter, yogic breathing and childlike playfulness. "It's a form of exercise that strengthens the immune system, unwinds the negative effects of stress and make you feel good," said Stephens. "There are no contortions or fancy movements. These exercises are appropriate and beneficial for all, regardless of their cognitive, sensory or motor abilities/limitations."

Attendance for the retreat is limited. Please contact Sandy Campbell for a registration form or with questions at 903-535-6302 or email slcampbell@etmc.org
