Smith County Commissioner Cary Nix announces second term

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - Smith County Commissioner Cary Nix announces he'll seek a second term in office.

Nix, a Republican, represents Precinct 2 and is a lifelong resident of Smith County.

He serves as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Whitehouse and is currently president of the Texas Rose Research Foundation.

Nix tells CBS19 he planned to run for another term from the start.

"We still got some unfinished business up here I'd like to accomplish before I leave office and hopefully the voters will give me another chance to fulfill those goals."

Commissioner Nix goes on to say he wants to focus on getting county roads and infrastructure in better shape.

He also wants to make sure Smith County is prepared for any cutbacks from the state or federal level.
