Health Alert: E-Cigarettes may be as good as patches

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Researchers in New Zealand put electronic cigarettes to the test to see if they work better than nicotine patches at helping smokers kick the habit.

Scientists used more than 600 smokers in their experiment and found that slightly more e-cigarette users were able to quit smoking for at least six months, but it was statistically a tie.

(CBS) - Harvard researchers warn that most deaths from breast cancer occur in younger women who do not get regular mammograms.

They looked into more than 600 cancer deaths and found 71 percent of them were among unscreened women, and half of them were under the age of 50.

The researchers say their findings go against the 2009 recommendation that only women over 50 should have mammograms.

(CBS) - Researchers at the Mayo Clinic say obese teenagers who lose weight are risk of developing eating disorders such as anorexia, and bulimia.

They say the formerly overweight teens also tend to have more medical complications from eating disorders, and that it takes longer to diagnose them than kids who are in a normal weight range.

The researchers say this underscores the importance of heading off obesity at an early age.
