Texas again named top state for doing business

Posted: Updated:

Office of the Governor Rick Perry:

AUSTIN (KYTX) - Texas has been named the top state for doing business for the third year in a row by Area Development Magazine. With its proven model of success, the Lone Star State continues to dominate the national conversation on job creation and economic prosperity.

"In Texas, we understand that in order for our economy to thrive, government must get out of the way and let businesses get to work," Gov. Perry said. "Our free market principles, low taxes, fair courts and smart regulations are an attractive combination for employers across the country. That's why in the past decade, three out of every 10 new jobs created in the United States have been in Texas. That's why we are home to 52 Fortune 500 companies, and why Texas continues to be the best state in the nation to live, work, raise a family and start a business."

In Area Development's annual survey, site consultants rank the states based on 17 different categories. Texas topped the list for best business environment, outranking other states in the categories of: most favorable regulatory environment; access to capital and project funding; speed of permitting; cooperative state government; cooperative tax environment; incentive programs; and cost of doing business. Texas was given the highest ranking for availability of skilled labor and most diverse labor pool, earning the state the title of best overall labor climate. Texas was also cited as the "most-mentioned" state by respondents to the survey.

This continues a decade-long trend of awards and recognitions for Texas' top-notch business climate In addition to the Area Development Magazine ranking, earlier this year the state was named best business climate by Business Facilities Magazine and most competitive state by Site Selection Magazine. Chief Executive Magazine has also ranked Texas as the best state for business for nine years in a row through their annual survey of CEOs.

Area Development Magazine is a leading bi-monthly publication covering site selection and facility planning based in Westbury, New York. Click here to view the full rankings and results.
