Caddo School Bus head-on crash injures nearly a dozen students

SHREVEPORT (KTBS) - A head-on collision with a school bus leaves 12 injured; including 10 students.

It happened around 7:30a.m. Friday the 9000 block of Mansfield Rd, near Alkay Drive in Shreveport.

Shreveport fire officials say the driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to LSU Hospital with injuries classified as critical to life threatening; the bus driver was transported to Willis Knighton for minor back/neck pain; an initial five students were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries; and an additional five students were transported from Summerfield Elementary School with non-life threatening injuries after being taken back to school on a separate Caddo Parish School bus.  

Witnesses told first responders that the passenger vehicle was traveling north bound at an approximate speed of 30 mph into oncoming south bound traffic when it impacted the school bus head-on.  The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department. Authorities say Caddo Parish School bus 49 was involved.
