We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

(CNN/WCVB) -  An ailing grandfather and devoted Red Sox fan was sent on a dream trip to Fenway Park and it was all thanks to the kindness of strangers online.

Allan Munroe remembers a lot of Red Sox games. He grew up in Andover and would occasionally come to Fenway Park with his dad. Now 87, Munroe moved to Florida, worked as a police officer and raised a family. He never lost his love for the sox.

"This is more than the thrill of a lifetime, that's for sure. I'm just grateful to get the chance to be here," says Allan Munroe, Red Sox fan.

It's been 50 years since he was at the park. His wife died last spring. Sox games on TV consoled him during her long illness.

"When she passed we were trying to get him healed and better.  It was 63 years they were together, and he was lost," says Teresa Linton, Monroe's daughter.

His granddaughter decided to ask the public, via the internet, to help. Donations came in, the Red Sox and a PR firm helped out, and their family traveled from Florida

"He's just been really lost and sad and this is the first time I've seen excitement back in his eyes so, it's amazing," says Angela McKinnon.

"When you use the phrase thrill of a lifetime, that just says it all, it doesn't come any bigger than this," says Munroe.

He applauded when the team was introduced and smiled a lot and in the end he had just two words to say. "Play Ball!"

The Red Sox gave Munroe one more gift Saturday night, a 5-1 win over the Yankees.
