TYLER (KYTX) - ETX football star Tommie Minter, 74 of Austin was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal crash at the Loop 323 and Hwy 14.

Several online sources confirm that Minter graduated from Gladewater High school and was drafted into the NFL after playing for Baylor University.

He played for the Buffalo Broncos and Denver Broncos in 1962.

Minter was also in the Baylor Athletics Hall of fame in 1999.

The driver of a car traveling at a high rate of speed died Wednesday after he lost control of his vehicle and ran up under an 18-wheeler stopped at a traffic light.

The fatal accident happened around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday just north of Tyler.

Troopers tell CBS19 that Minter was traveling too fast when he lost control, and struck the trailer of the  truck.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured, according to DPS troopers.

Traffic was backed up at the intersection for several hours.
