Longview ranked 20th in U.S. for GDP growth in 2012

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - One East Texas city ranked among the top 20 metropolitan areas in the U.S. for real growth in its gross domestic product.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Longview's 5.4 percent GDP growth ranked 20th among all metro areas. Longview's GDP rose from almost $10.7 billion in 2011, to $11.38 billion in 2012. Longview's total GDP is ranked 171st in the nation.

Tyler's GDP increased 1.2 percent to $8.25 billion in 2012, up from $8.16 billion in 2011, according to the bureau. Tyler is ranked 195th in the nation for total GDP, compared to Texarkana, ranked No. 277 in the nation, with $1.86 billion in gross domestic product.

Midland and Odessa led the list as the top two U.S. metro areas for real GDP growth, at 14.4 percent and 14.1 percent, respectively.
