Health Alert: New recommendation for radiation therapy

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Breast cancer patients may be better off with 3 weeks of radiation therapy and not the 5 weeks still recommended in many countries. Researchers in London say the shorter treatment has similar results and is less damaging to healthy tissue. Other benefits include fewer hospital visits and lower costs.

(CBS) - New research is re-enforcing the benefits of colon screenings. Two studies covering nearly 90- thousand people found that those who received either a colonoscopy or an exam that allow doctors to look inside the large intestine had significantly lower rates of colon and rectal cancer. Doctors say the research also confirms the recommendation that most people should have a colonoscopy every 10 years starting at age 50.

(CBS) - E-Readers can help some people with dyslexia improve reading comprehension and speed. Researchers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics studied more than 100 high school students with dyslexia. They found improved reading results when students switched from paper to E-Readers. They believe the shorter lines displayed on electronic devices greatly benefited students with limited attention spans.
