John Furlow challenges Judge Baker for the Smith Co. Judge position

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - A challenger for Smith County Judge. He's an Army veteran and a certified public accountant who's never been in politics.

"The Commissioners Court is the court of the people. And the business of people ought to be taken care of in front of the people."

Republican John Furlow says he wants to implement a long range spending plan, pay county employees based on merit and overhaul the way county cars and trucks are bought and paid for.

"Now is the time for the current leadership to set the county up for success during that period of time. The things that should be in place are not in place," says John Furlow.

"We have a lot of work yet to do and we've made a lot of great accomplishments in the last seven years," says Judge Joel Baker.

That was current County Judge Joel Baker. He says he'll be making a formal announcement about re-election in October. The primary is next March.
