UPDATE: (KYTX)- After the rain hit East Texas, several accidents were reported on I-20 due to the slippery roads. One wreck, involving many vehicles, sent two to ETMC in Tyler and killed another.

On Friday evening, DPS Troopers were notified of a multiple vehicle crash on I-20 in Smith Co., West of US 271.

A 2008 Ford Expedition, driven by Jennifer Nelson of Longview, was WB on IH-20. Traffic was stopped due to a previously occurring crash. 

Nelson struck the back end of a 2008 Mercedes C30 driven by 39 year old Vincent Joseph Chao of Monroe, Louisiana who was taken to ETMC-Tyler for non-incapacitating injuries.   

Chaos passenger, 71 year old Yong S. Chao also of Monroe, was killed. Another passenger in the vehicle, 65 year old Shiu-Fang Chao was injured and was also transported to ETMC-Tyler. 

The Mercedes was then pushed into a 2006 Ford Expedition driven by William Sheldt Miles, Jr. of Bridgeport, Texas.   

Miles' vehicle then struck a 2013 Dodge Avenger driven by Bryan Shelt Miles of Paradise, Texas.  No other injuries were reported.   

Wet road conditions were a contributing factor in the crash.       

The crash was investigated by Trooper Charles Loftin – DPS Tyler.  He was assisted by Troopers Johnson, Thompson and Anthony all of DPS Tyler.

 


(KYTX) - There is heavy traffic on I-20 due to three accidents on Friday evening.

Smith County DPS tells CBS19 that emergency crews are responding to two wrecks at the 571 mile marker on 1-20.

One wreck is a fatality. Details are limited but CBS19 will bring you more information as it becomes available . 

The second wreck, also at the 571 mile marker, involved an 18-wheeler. No injuries were reported. 

A third wreck was reported at mile maker 579. It has been cleared up and there were no injuries reported.
