Smith County Deputies are passing out fines for violating the burn ban

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - Until the ban is lifted in your county there are fines for lighting up outside. You cannot burn trash or use an open grill in the burn ban areas.

Over the weekend, county fire marshals and sheriffs responded to multiple reports of burn ban violations. Law enforcement says they'll keep giving them out if they catch you  in violation.

"I know the deputies, the Smith County Sheriff's Office has assisted us and helped us tremendously in trying to get to all of these and they have written several over the weekend. We've written several in the last month," says Connie Wasson, Smith County Assistant Fire Marshal.

Burn ban fines can cost around 500 dollars or more.

Van Zandt County didn't issue any burn ban citations. Henderson County issued warnings.

Commissioners in both counties may lift bans when they meet tomorrow.
