We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

(KCEN) -- The governing boards of Baylor Health Care System and Scott & White Healthcare announced Sept. 30 the completion of a merge. The two health systems are united to form the largest not-for-profit health system in the state of Texas.

The deal creates a new $8.3 billion* organization with the vision and resources to offer its patients continued exceptional care while creating a model system for an industry undergoing fundamental transformation.

The new Baylor Scott & White Health includes 43 hospitals, more than 500 patient care sites, more than 6,000 affiliated physicians, 34,000 employees and the Scott & White Health Plan.

The organization will be guided by a combined team of leaders from both Baylor and Scott & White.

Baylor Health Care System chief executive officer Joel Allison is now the chief executive officer of the new Baylor Scott & White Health.

Scott & White president and chief executive officer Robert Pryor, MD, is now president, chief operating officer and chief medical officer of Baylor Scott & White Health.

A unified board of trustees is comprised of 16 individuals with an equal number of representatives from each organization. Drayton McLane, Jr. serves as chair of the unified board. Jim Turner serves as chair-elect.

"Baylor Scott & White Health combines and builds on our strengths as recognized health care leaders, along with our shared values, history of innovation and strong leadership," said Drayton McLane, Jr., board chairman, Baylor Scott & White Health. "Baylor Scott & White Health will be a national leader."

Baylor Scott & White Health is based in Dallas, and Baylor Scott & White Health Service company is based in Temple. The service company will support the new organization's facilities by providing corporate functions such as human resources and information technology.

"Over time, patients in the communities we serve will begin seeing the new brand Baylor Scott & White Health emerge," said Joel Allison, chief executive officer, Baylor Scott & White Health. "We are building a new national model for health care delivery engineered to meet the demands of health care reform, the changing needs of patients and payers and the extraordinary advances in clinical care."

Baylor and Scott & White first announced the merger plans in December 2012 and signed a definitive agreement in June 2013.

"Over the past ten months, our two teams have worked diligently to complete our merger," said Robert Pryor, MD, president, chief operating officer and chief medical officer for Baylor Scott & White Health. "Through our work together, we have confirmed that our two cultures are a good match. We share common values, most notably a commitment to teamwork and delivering the highest quality patient-centered care."

Baylor Scott & White Health will continue to honor its individual entities' 100+ year legacies, including Baylor's Christian ministry of healing.

"The combination of Baylor and Scott & White's geographic diversity and reputations for clinical excellence strengthen both organizations during a time of significant change," says Jim Turner, chair-elect, Baylor Scott & White Health. "We have a strong platform for advancing the health of not only each patient we serve, but also the population of the state and the country."
