Most of ETX will not be affected by the government shut down

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - The good news for East Texas is that most of us won't notice the shut down. At least not right away.

With very few federal jobs in the area, the biggest problems will be retirement pay for military men and women and a slow down on processing federal gun permits.

Whenever it's all back up and running tax-payers will be on the hook.

"It actually does cost the American people more money to have the shut down than it does to have the continued resolution to continue negotiating," Prof. David McClendon, TJC Government Professor.

"The amount of money that it takes to manage a government shutdown by the entities that are allowed to manage the government while it is in shutdown is extremely costly."

The last government shutdown came with a bill of about 2 billion dollars.
