TYLER (KYTX) - NetHealth has finished putting on the finishing touched turning the old fire station at 2815 Frankston highway in the new Center for Healthy Living.

The new facility will offer preventative health care to low income and uninsured east Texans.

Umbra Armstrong is on out of the millions of Americans without healthcare insurance.

Armstrong said because he doesn't have insurance he tried to eat healthy, doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs.

"I gotta take care of myself."

He said, when you don't have insurance or the money to get medical care, taking care of yourself isn't always an easy job. NetHealth is hoping to help change that.

"We want it to be a one stop shop where people can come and connect with the resources in our community to help them live healthier lives," said the NetHealth Public Information Officer Stephanie Taylor.

She said when the center officially opens to the public on October 16th it will be able to provide certain preventative care to people just like Armstrong.

"We're just excited about we hope the community will come out and see what it's all about and utilize the service," Taylor said.

Some of the services will include blood pressure screenings, cholesterol testing, mammograms, diabetes testing and all of it will be for free.

"I think that's a good deal and that's something that could benefit the homeless population," said Armstrong.

On top of the testing, the center will provide on-going classes centered around healthy habits like nutrition and weight management.

"If you can come to a class to help you take care of yourself at home outside of the doctors office, it can have a tremendous effect on your health," said Taylor.

NetHealth says this is one way it hopes to help the east Texas community stay ahead of health complications.

Armstrong said that's exactly what NetHealth should be doing.

"One of the responsibilities of society is to provide information for the people the inhabitants of society.
