"Rose City" fine art at the Main Street Gallery in Tyler

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - In celebration of the October Rose Season in Tyler, Gallery Main Street will open its new "Rose City" fine art exhibit on Friday, Oct. 4 with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gallery, 110 W. Erwin St.

Nineteen works of art are included in the exhibit and range from traditional oil and acrylic to assembly pieces.

"Of course, we have some lovely, traditionally executed interpretations of the theme," said City of Tyler Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell. "But, we were also very pleased to see quite contemporary interpretations of the ‘Rose City' theme. And though there are several floral subjects, as one might expect, there are also images of Tyler itself, which of course is known as the Rose City."

The reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibit will remain in the gallery through Monday, Nov. 11. Admission is free. Hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

Gallery Main Street offers the public new juried exhibits approximately every six weeks. Artists submit up to three digital images of their work that are judged on an anonymous basis, by a jury of professional artists. The top-scoring pieces are selected for inclusion in the exhibit. The piece that gets the highest score is named Best in Show.

Detailed information on how to enter future exhibits can be found at www.downtowntylerarts.com.

Gallery Main Street is managed by the City of Tyler Main Street Department in conjunction with the volunteers of Heart of Tyler and the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition.
