Teen killed in Kilgore, police arrest suspect

KILGORE (KYTX) - A 17-year-old girl, Kayla Williams, is dead and a 22-year old man, Coby Hudgins, is being held responsible for her death.

The shooting happened at 9:12 Saturday night in the 3000 block of Mustang Drive in Kilgore. 

CBS 19’s Katiera Winfrey went to scene of the shooting and explains what police and neighbors say happened.

There is no visible indication a shooting took place at the house on Mustang Drive. The doors are closed and the driveway is empty, but the night before things were different.

In a press release from the Kilgore Police Department said Williams and a group of friends were visiting Hudgins’ home when Williams was killed, police say Hudgins left the scene and crashed his car a short distance from the house.

He was arrested for DWI and murder.

People that live along the 3000 block of mustang drive says it wasn't  uncommon to see a lot of people down at the house where this incident happened. However neighbors and family members who chose to speak off camera said Hudgins was a good kid and that this whole thing is just a big accident.

Police haven’t said if they are investigating the shooting as an accident, however, a neighbor said he was told the gun may have gone off accidentally while Hudgins was showing it to Williams.

Hudgins is being held in the Gregg County jail and being charged with murder and DWI.

His bond for the murder charge is set for $100,000.

KILGORE (KYTX) -  A woman is dead after she was shot Saturday night in the he 3000 block of Mustang Drive in Kilgore. Police have the man they believe is responsible for her death in custody.

Coby Hudgins, 22, was arrested for allegedly shooting 17-year-old Kayla Elizabeth Williams.

In a press release, Kilgore police said witnesses identified Hudgins as the person that shot Williams with a  handgun, they said Hudgins left the scene of the shooting before police could arrive.

Hudgins was arrested soon after that same night  by DPS for DWI after crashing his car on FM 2087.

After an investigation, Kilgore police charged Hudgins with murder. He is being held in the Gregg County jail on $100,000 bond for murder and $1,000 for DWI.

Police have not released a reason for the shooting.
