TYLER (KYTX) - The four republican candidates for Texas Lieutenant Governor will be in Tyler Saturday for a debate.

Candidates who have declared for the Lt. Governor's race are: Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, State Senator Dan Patrick, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples. The Republican Primary will be held on March 4, 2014.

Choosing one of these men to be the next lieutenant governor of Texas is extremely important. As the presiding chairman of the state senate, the "lite gov" sets the agenda for the Texas Senate and chooses the committee chairs for very powerful senate committees. The lieutenant governor can kill bills and shape the outcome of the legislative session just by who is chosen to chair and serve on a committee.

What: The East Texas Constitutional Alliance – of which Grassroots America is a founding member – will sponsor a Lt. Governor Candidate Forum and Straw Poll

 When: Saturday, October 12, 2013

Time: Doors open at 2 PM; event begins at 2:30 PM and ends at 4 PM with straw poll voting until 5 PM.

Location: UT-Tyler Ornelas Activity Center, 3402 Old Omen Road, Tyler, TX.

Program:

2:30 - 2:45 PM Welcome, Prayer, Pledges, Introductions (15)

2:45 - 3:00 PM Rules of engagement, candidate introductions (15)

3:00 - 4:00 PM Questioning of candidates (60)

4:00 - 4:15 PM Candidate rebuttals & closing comments (15)

4:15 - 5:00 PM Straw poll voting & announcement of results (45)

Total event run time: 2 hrs. 30 minutes

Co-panelists asking the questions will be:

Michael Kinzie, founder of the Lake Fork TEA Party Patriots and the creative talent behindTeaParty911.com website -- a very informative collection of TEA Party news, blogs, and events.

JoAnn Fleming, two-term Chair of the Texas Legislature's TEA Party Caucus Advisory Committee – a citizen advisory board to the TX Legislature's TEA Party Caucus and Executive Director of Grassroots America.
