Justice of the Peace Pleads Guilty

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A McLennan County Justice of the Peace pleads guilty to falsifying her own records.

It happened this morning in Waco's 19th State District Court.

Jean Laster Boone submitted her resignation to County Judge Scott Felton.

She had been Precinct 7's Justice of the Peace since 1999.

All this controversy is over false mileage reimbursement forms that Boone filed.

That allowed her to collect $360 dollars a month, the maximum amount allowed by McLennan County.

She appeared in court on Tuesday with her lawyer Thomas West, pleading guilty to two felony accounts and handing in her resignation.

"Well, they have to accept that resignation. Y'all have to talk to the court about how they are going to do that and when they are going to do that. Basically, it's our understanding between her attorneys and me, for the most part that's correct she is no longer a judge," says District Attorney Abel Reyna.

Her plea comes in exchange for prosecutors recommending Boone be placed in deferred probation.

Boone will also have to pay $5,000 in restitution to the county.

And if she completes her probation, her conviction will not appear on her record.

Judge Ralph Strother will sentence Boone on December 16 of this year.
