ETX Church Figuring Out Next Step After Sanctuary Ceiling Collapse

Posted: Updated:

CARTHAGE (KYTX) -- First United Methodist Church of Carthage is sorting through its options after a worker discovered the ceiling in the sanctuary collapsed Wednesday morning.  It happened overnight and no one was hurt, but the damage was heavy and the sanctuary is unusable.

Now the church is making arrangements to go on with the Sunday worship service in an alternate location. Pastor Keefe Cropper tells CBS19 the service will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday in the church's activity center which it calls the Sanctuasium.  Right now workers are trying to hook up a sound system and a projector.

Pastor Cropper says the community has been very supportive and thanks everyone for their prayers and assistance.  He estimates the repairs will take at least three months and he hopes they can be complete by Christmas, but that may not happen.
