Belton was hit hard by the storm on Saturday night, leaving fallen trees and downed power lines all over many neighborhoods.

Residents like Guadalupe Martinez were surprised by the extensive damage they found when they woke up Sunday morning.

"It was very loud, very windy...a lot of hail was coming through," she said. "It was something we've never really experienced in this little neighborhood. We've lived here for years."

Homeowners on South Pearl Street could smell gas and see power lines sparking after the storm moved through. Strong winds managed to knock over trees and even blow out windows.

The neighborhood worked together to clean up the street on Sunday morning.

"We've been going around our neighborhood helping everybody clean up, getting the debris out," said Sylvia Ramos. "The city of Belton is gonna have a lot of work with all those brush piles."

Yettie Polk Park was also struck by the damaging storm. At least half of the trees are uprooted or broken. Caution tape now lines the area to keep people away from unsteady branches that could fall.

Crews will continue to work on clearing streets and sidewalks on Monday, before they focus on the park.

The city of Belton will make an announcement about the reopening of the park sometime next week.
