200 request name corrections to comply with voter ID laws

(TYLER MORNING TELEGRPAH) - Smith County Elections Administrator Karen Nelson said about 200 residents had filled out paperwork to correct names on voter rolls.

Mrs. Nelson said the residents' names on their state-issued forms of identification, which is required by law now, differed from the names on voter rolls.

Residents were required to initial an affidavit stating they were the same person and asked to write their first, middle and last name as it appears on their ID so it could be changed.

Mrs. Nelson said no voter has been asked to vote on provisional ballots because they did not have an accepted form of identification.

An unexpired Texas driver's license, state identification card, concealed handgun license, U.S. passport, a military identification or citizenship certificate with photos allows voters to access the polls
