Popular neighborhoods prepare for traffic this Halloween

Posted: Updated:

Tyler (KYTX) -- Some of the more popular neighborhoods get so crowded on Halloween, it can be dangerous to walk around for families.

These are also typically gold mines for trick-or-treaters.

"It's something that makes Hollytree special. We get a lot of people in for Halloween," Stacy Smith, a resident in the Hollytree subdivision, said.

Smith and her family can vouch that Halloween is no casual affair where they live.

"There was a lot of traffic, the door bell was ringing constantly, and we actually ran out of candy at 8 because I wasn't as prepared as I should have been," Smith said.

She says many families in her neighborhood keep their lights on to help with visibility, but you can do your part when walking on the streets.

"When it's dark, maybe wear reflective clothing, something that can stand out,"Smith said.

And anyone behind the wheel has even more responsibility.

"They need to be paying attention. Be extra vigilant, extra cautious and in neighborhood areas, in residential areas," Trooper Jean Dark with the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Because the Hollytree neighborhood is so popular, officers from the Tyler Police Department will be out Thursday night manning the streets to help control traffic.

Troopers suggest parking in a nearby lot and walking to the neighborhood to ease up the number of cars on the road.
