Woman Survives Two Battles with Breast Cancer

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Staring death in the eyes, something this woman says she got used to.
"It happen so quick, I didn't really have time to think about what was going on, I just knew something could take my life."
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1973 and again in 2003, Bobbie Jo Walker says she shifted her focus to what's truly important in life, loved ones.
"People are just so reluctant to talk about breast cancer and I don't know why. It doesn't just effect you. It effects your family, your friends."
She says round 1 was the hardest. She had just lost her husband Walter and she was scared that her 4 children would be without their mom and dad.
"I just kept thinking of one verse. Into thine own hands, I give you my body, my mind and my soul. So in other words whatever happens, I am totally ready."
Since then, Bobby has made it her mission to make sure women get checked early, and often.  She cares about health, teaching exercise classes and speaking to women about breast health. She also makes regular phone calls to encourage others with the same illness, and makes crafts to lift their spirits.
"That's the hardest part, is staying positive in the face of others"
Buckner Westminster Place Executive Director Wes Wells says  Bobby Jo touches the hearts of all the women she meets.
"She just wants people to know that there is nothing to be ashamed of. She just wants people to get checked, and have knowledge so they can treat it."
"I just hope god gives me the right words to say when the time comes, to be able to say the right things. And put a positive aspect on it."
