Longview teen on probation jailed for punching elderly man

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A Longview teenager arrested in August for drunk driving at an East Texas college is back in jail today, accused of punching an elderly man after the victim complained that the teen was playing his music too loud.

According to an arrest affidavit, Longview police responded to an assault-just-occurred call in the 1600 block of Holly Street at about 3:30 Saturday morning. Through an interpreter, a 72-year-old Hispanic man said he went to the owner of a home on Holly Street to get the owner to turn down loud music coming from a parked car in the driveway. While talking to the homeowner, 18-year-old Erfain Landeros approached the victim and punched him in the head with his fist, causing a three-inch cut on the right side of the victim's head, according to the affidavit. A physical altercation ensued in the yard, and when officers arrived, they found a large, blue-colored, round lump under the victim's right eye and the suspect with a minor bruise on the left side of his face and scratches on his neck.

Landeros told officers he was defending himself from the victim, who was transported by a private vehicle to a local hospital. An update on his condition is not known.

Landeros is in the Gregg County Jail today on $20,000 bond, charged with felony injury to the elderly. On Oct. 18, he pled guilty to driving drunk with a blood-alcohol concentration of at least 0.15 - nearly twice the legal limit for motorists over the age of 21. Landeros is serving an 18-month probation sentence.
