Voters say "No" to Chapel Hill ISD bond proposal

Posted: Updated:

CHAPEL HILL (KYTX) - It was a long night of checking election results for the Chapel Hill ISD bond proposal. After election results were sent in, district leaders found out the bond was voted against and will not go through.

District officials say, this isn't' the last you'll hear about the need for district improvements.

This is what voters passed up. By voting against the $31.2 million bond proposal, the plan to add more classrooms to the middle school and a long list of renovations will not happen.

The additions and renovations would have spread throughout the district improving other areas and doing an overhaul of the athletic venues. Also, it would have provided funds to build a transportation maintenance area along with so much more. District leaders say despite Tuesday's loss, they'll keep moving forward.

"We're very adamant about that fact that we need to do some of these things, and we'll look at it again and go back to the drawing board and reevaluate and come back in may with another package," said district board president Jeff Akin.

There is no set time on how long coming up with a new proposal will take, but the district says it will be coming.

In the meantime, district superintendent Dr. Donni Cook asks the public to really find out what's needed in the schools.

"If they have questions I would encourage community members and parents to feel free to visit our schools to attend our events to look and learn," said Cook.
