Christmas Comes Early with Santa at Richland Mall

Posted: Updated:

Christmas is right around the corner for shoppers trying to check off those wish lists and Richland Mall is now covered in decorations.

Carl Elmore has a growing list of people to shop for this Christmas. "I actually started shopping last year when Christmas was over," Elmore said. "Deals! It's cheaper."

He's not the only one getting an early start on the holiday. Trees and twinkling lights are all over Richland Mall in Waco.

Santa will make his big debut Friday night...with a tree lighting and even some snow.

People are buying their trees and checking off their Christmas lists, but some wonder if it's all happening a little too early.

"Oh we're gonna be ready for Christmas now, but we wanna focus on Thanksgiving first," some shoppers said. "We're always ready for Christmas!"

Ready or not, some people worry that the flashy decorations and long shopping lists take away from what makes the holiday special.

"I think that Christmas sometimes is blown way out of proportion," said one shopper at Lowe's on New Road in Waco. "It's not just about gifts...giving and getting. Ya know?"

But for Carl, checking off that list is important...even if it means joining the crowds at the mall.

"I kind of miss Thanksgiving! But ya know...tis' the season to spend the money."
