We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

CANTON (KYTX) - The cleanup process could soon be under way the The Mountain shopping, lodging center in Canton after a fire tore through the area destroying multiple buildings.

Representatives said, there will be a impact overall and for individual businesses in the wake of the destruction.

The area is still surrounded by yellow fire tape, some business owners have come out to take a look at the damage again and other owners are seeing the damage for the first time, just a few days ago the area damaged was filled with small buildings packed tightly together, all that's left now is charred rubble.

A soot and water stained rug leads to a stretch of charred destruction.

"It's hard, it's sad...this was all new for my sister and I," said owner of Heaven's Haven Bed and Breakfast, Pam March.

She and her sister have owned the bed and breakfast for two months.

"We knew we had a loss, but it's different when you see it in person," March said after seeing the destruction for the first time.

The Mountain is home to multiple small businesses, each contribute shopping traffic for "First Mondays" at the Old Mill Marketplace flea market day.

"We're lucky about 10 percent of the mountain is damaged," said Old Mill Marketplace and The Mountain General Manager Stephen Cash.

"People come from all over the country to come here for First Monday cause we're the largest flea market in the world," Cash said.

Clean up will start soon, so the devastation isn't expected to impact the shopping traffic. However the destroyed businesses won't fare so well.

Cash said, " They lost everything... they built this with their hard earned savings."

Many business owners had no insurance, or were like March and didn't have enough insurance. Even so March said she's content.

"This whole mountain could have gone up, so  we're very thankful."

Cash said, when the property was first built it was under county rules so some of the fire regulations were different than the city requirements. However, after this incident they're going to do a complete turnaround of their fire operations in the hopes of preventing another fire in the future.
