Only on CBS 19: East Texas family finds peace in tragedy

(KYTX) -  A piece of metal sits by a small creek on the west side of Highway 69 south near Ballard road in Lindale.

A symbol of a life lost, a mother's child gone from this world too soon.

"More than likely, she didn't feel a thing. That's my conformation that I got from God, that she did not suffer," said Lynn Day, Elizabeth's mother.

Lynn Day received word on the morning of November 9th, that her Cadillac, that Elizabeth was driving when she was reported missing, had been found.

"I could tell by the look on their face that it wasn't good news. I already knew," said Day.

In the car was Elizabeth's body.

Smith County investigators believe she somehow veered off the road and into the creek. Lynn says she was told the SUV was completely upside down in the creek.

"He said that the cab was fully submerged in water," added Day.

No one really knows what caused Elizabeth to veer into the creek. It's not something Lynn really thinks about.

Right now, she holds onto the memories of her daughter.

"I've heard from a lot of people over these past two weeks. My daughter was a really sweet girl. She loved people. She would do anything for anybody. And she had a spirit about her that drew people to her," said Day.

Elizabeth's younger sister, Bri Orasco, thinks about her sister everyday.

"When I remember the good times, it's really hard, because we won't have those anymore," said Bri Orasco.

Her big sister was her confidant.

"She was really like my best friend, I could talk to her about anything," said Orasco.

Although those conversations have come to an end, at the end of the day, it's all about remaining strong in a time of weakness.

"The only thing that has kept me going, and strong, is my faith in God. That's it. He has been my refuge. He has been my rock. He has been everything for me through this whole ordeal," said Day.

Funeral services are currently pending for Elizabeth Hamilton.

Elizabeth's mother plans on setting up a memorial fund Tuesday at Lindale State Bank in Elizabeth's name.

She says the money will be used to pay for Elizabeth's funeral.
