Body discovered in rubble of Wood Co. house fire

Posted: Updated:

WOOD CO. (KYTX) - The Wood County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body found in the ashes of a house fire.

The victim has been identified as Roy Dan Stout.

The victims's brother, Larry Stout found the body after he went to check on a possible water leak.

The blaze destroyed the home, and only a small portion of the ashes were smoldering and the rest of the house had cooled when officers arrived.

The residence was located several hundred yards off the roadway in dense woods. The fire was not seen or reported by neighbors or passerby, and the smoke was not visible which leads investigators to conclude the fire occurred at night.

The burnt house and body were not discovered until approximately 10:10 a.m. Tuesday November 12, 2013.

Larry Stout made the call to the sheriff's office at 10:17 a.m.

The partially burnt body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
