Deaths happen every day on Texas roads

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Every day for the past 13 years, at least one person has died in a crash on a Texas road equaling up to more than 45,000 deaths. The last day on record with no fatalities was November 7th, 2000.

"There's a desire in all of us I think to take a little bit of a risk when speeding doesn't seem that bad, or I haven't had that much to drink or I can text and drive," said Tyler area TxDot Public Information Officer Larry Krantz.

As thanksgiving nears, the number of drivers hitting the road will be at it's highest. Krantz said Texas is large, but size isn't an excuse for avoidable crashes.

"There's been a day when there was not a fatality, and I think we can be there again," Krantz said.
