ET Hospitals face penalties, bonuses under Affordable Care Act program

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - It's called hospital value-based purchasing, a part of the 20-10 affordable care act, meant to boost the quality of care given to medicare and medicaid patients.

Every year, more than 3,000 hospitals give up one percent of their medicare reimbursements.

That money -- is used to reward hospitals that improve patient satisfaction. When the plan was unveiled --  the centers for Medicare and Medicaid services said about half of all hospitals would qualify for rewards, but among the 18 East Texas hospitals that participate in value-based purchasing -- only five are getting bonuses.
