29th Thanksgiving Food Drive sorting donations at Maude Cobb

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Hundreds of East Texans sorted through tons of food this afternoon in Longview.

The 29th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive at Maude Cobb Activity Center attracted volunteers young and old to take in last-minute donations, sort them into boxes and buggies, and prepared for at least 1,100 East Texas families. "I walked in, I was like, 'They do this for Longview?!?'" first-year volunteer Cheryl Crafton said. "This is awesome."

"It is an honor to be here to help out with something that is other than ourselves to help people at the Thanksgiving holidays," said Imani Perry, a Longview High School student volunteering as a member of Top Teens of Distinction.

Tuesday, volunteers will return to Maude Cobb to hand out food boxes to pre-approved families. Each box will contain everything a family needs for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
