Shoppers cashing in on sales ahead of Black Friday

Posted: Updated:

Tyler (KYTX) -- Many retailers aren't waiting until Black Friday to bust out big sale signs.

"I've been really happy with what I've seen so far," Renee Wright, a shopper at Broadway Square Mall in Tyler, said.

Wright has Santa's little helper with her at the mall-- her son Matthew.

"We're hitting a lot of the stores. And we're taking it slow," Wright said.

The mom doesn't do extreme crowds, so she's checking out sales today--and hasn't been disappointed.

"They are starting early I think. I've seen a lot of half off and 60 percent off, and so I'm able to get a lot of things that I want," Wright said.

It's true that the deals are already out there.

"It's not just Black Friday that you can catch some good deals," Candace Foster, Director of Marketing at the Broadway Square Mall, said.

The mall is giving shoppers more time to snag sale prices. This year for the first time, the mall opens at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Last year, it was midnight.

"You have more time to shop, you don't have to rush around to the different places to get all your things purchased," Foster said.

Some people are scoping things out now to make a game plan for later.

"A lot of people want to get in and check us out, and see what we have and what we are going to offer," Ed Cox, Store Leader at JcPenney, said.

Cox said to compete for business, the department store is offering tons of door busters starting Thursday.

"We actually do have some of the best prices that I've ever seen. It's going to be one of the largest events in our companies history," Cox said.

The first 100 customers in Broadway Square Mall on Thursday get goodie bags as a reward for shopping.
