Lindale family loses more than 300 pounds together

Posted: Updated:

LINDALE (KYTX) - A Lindale family has 300 reasons to be thankful this holiday season.  That's how many pounds they've lost since taking a weight loss challenge as a family.  Meet them in this Fit City report.

The Martin's daughter, Keri made the decision first to get rid of all of the food that was making her feel bad, and bad about herself. But getting her parents on board didn't happen overnight, until they were mentally ready to change their lifestyle.

"My wife and I came home and Keri had decided to take it upon herself to rid the house of anything bad," says John Martin.

Their pantry is where John and Jill martin's unhealthy habits were exposed 3 years ago.
"Huge garbage bags of food, everything white, all the breads, all the starches, everything was gone. I got angry and she said dad, mom, 'we are done.'"

John weighed almost 300 pounds, but wasn't ready to let go of the pizza and pasta for salads and lean protein that now fill him up. "Food is so convenient these days.  The problem is a lot of the food is just horrible for you," says John.

Every passing day, john was getting more stressed and more tired.  "There is no doubt that my days were numbered in terms of what the normal lifetime span is.  I was due for a heart attack. I am 51 and on my way out," says John.

His wife Jill was struggling, too. She found herself weighing what she did at 9 months pregnant.
"I was sad and I was getting ready to get plump and get old," says Jill Martin.

Jill joined Keri first in her challenge to live better by eating better.  Then, in April they signed up as a family for the ViSalus 90 day challenge, which includes shakes and a healthy meal plan.

"Eating right and getting the right nutrition, whether it is ViSalus or some other product, even if it is just eating properly, it is going to make a change," says Jill.

Jill is now back to her high school weight and 40 pounds lighter.  "I don't feel like I have to stand behind people like if we are taking pictures," says Jill.

John's made the biggest transformation, dropping 100 pounds.  "My life is totally different today.  I am a new person and I am 51 going on 30.

John started to feel so good, he wanted to help others. He now coaches people online and over the phone who are trying to lose weight like he did.
