City of Tyler prepares for frozen roads and overpasses

Posted: Updated:
(KYTX) - The City of Tyler is ready to tackle any ice or other problems on the roads as well.

Trucks are fueled and lined up in case any water on the roads freezes.

Carter Delleney, the city engineer, says crews are closely watching the Beckham and Gentry overpasses as well as the hospital district because there are more raised roads in those areas.

"We haven't done any sanding yet. Just because the temperatures haven't dictated it. We're watching closely the overpasses and if they get to the point with the windchill factor and with us driving them as well that we got to get out there and put sand on them, we will," Delleney.

The city uses a sand and metal mixture called slag to help cars get better traction.

Crews will be on standby throughout the weekend.
