Andre Thompson ties for Salvation Army world record bell ringing

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Andre Thompson spent more than 100 hours ringing a bell for the Salvation Army, and he now has tied with two other volunteers for a Salvation Army world record.

The ringing stopped tonight at 8 P.M. at the Walgreens on Reik Road and Broadway.

Thompson started ringing on tTuesday morning, and ringers from California and Minnesota joined him in beating a world record of 80 hours last night.

Thompson says the people who came to see him and thank him, even in the freezing weather, kept him going.

"There were some points where my mind was like not wanting to function in the middle of the night. When in the middle of it, like on the fourth day. But other than that, I kept praying," says Andre Thompson.

Thompson helped raise more than $10,000 in his 105 hours this week.

The three ringers set their bells down simultaneously tonight.
