Hatchet attack at Marshall Wal-Mart leaves one man in custody

UPDATE: The man accused of wielding a hatchet at a Marshall Wal-Mart, and injuring three people is jailed on bonds totaling $225,000.

27-year-old Christopher Hamilton of Crawford, Arkansas is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.


 

UPDATE: Marshall police say, at 5:50 Sunday morning, officers responded to Wal-Mart in the 1700 block of East End Blvd., where a man reportedly swung a hatchet at people.

A transient from Arkansas has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's in the Harrison County Jail this morning, after officers from Marshall, Hallsville and the Texas Department of Public Safety found him in a wooded area near Wal-Mart at about 7:30 this morning.

Police have not said exactly how many people were hospitalized, but the suspect, 27-year-old Christopher Hamilton, of Crawford, Ark., is charged with aggravated assault against three people.

In a press released, Marshall PD Investigator Sonya Johnson said:

 "On December 8, 2013 at 5:50am Marshall Police Department Communications
received a call reporting that a white male subject was inside Wal-mart located in the
1700 block of E. End Blvd North (Hwy 59), swinging a hatchet at people. While officers
where en route, MPD Communications advised that several subjects had been injured;
therefore, Marshall Firefighters/EMT where en route as well.

"Upon officers' arrival, the subject had fled the scene into the surrounding wooded
area. MPD Officers as well as the K-9 unit from Hallsville PD and Texas Department of
Public Safety Troopers searched the wooded area in the vicinity of Wal-mart. At 7:30am
MPD Officer's located the subject and placed him under arrest.

The subject was identified as Christopher Hamilton (DOB 03/06/1986) a transient
from Crawford, Arkansas. Hamilton was charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Assault
with a Deadly Weapon. This offense is a 2nd degree Felony and is punishable for any
term in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice of not more that 20 years or less
than 2 years.

In addition to imprisonment, an individual may be punished by a fine
not to exceed $10,000.

 


 

 

MARSHALL (KYTX) - Wal-Mart in Marshall was closed several hours after an incident early this morning, according to radio station KMHT.

Police have not released any information, saying that a press release will be issued sometime today about the incident.

According to KMHT's Facebook page
, the store was closed for several hours until about 9:30 this morning. Store employees tell KMHT that a man attacked several store employees with either a machete or a hatchet. He is in custody, and at least one victim was hospitalized.
