Radio Host Jimmy Olson camps out for Toys for Tots Drive

Posted: Updated:

Tyler (KYTX) -- It's an around the clock operation--to make sure every child has a present to open on Christmas morning. Jammin' Jimmy Olson moved into his new temporary home on Monday to collect toys for Toys for Tots. He isn't sure when he'll move out.

"I'm in this box until I raise at least 2,000 pounds of toys and 102 bicycles," Olson said.

This is the 5th year the DJ of 95.3 and 102.3 FM The Breeze, has dedicated himself to helping the Marine Corp Toys for Tots Drive. He hopes to reach new heights this year.

"It's staggering how many more kids need assistance this year than last year," Olson said.

Through the cold, rainy weather he'll be out in the elements 24/7. The Marines are at the Broadway Square Mall parking lot in Tyler too, showing their support.

"It's a lot of work, but the work is definitely worth it," Private First Class Mobley, a U.S. Marine, said.

After doing this for a few years, Olson says he's noticed a trend.

"It's always the people who don't have, that give the most. I need the people who have the means to do it to really step up this year," Olson said.

He hopes to inspire a change of heart for one purpose. "It must be that every child smiles on Christmas morning,"Olson said.

Last year was a record-setting year for Jimmy's Ton of Toys Drive. The community gave 178 bikes and more than 7,000 pounds of toys.
