Bell ringer in Tyler helps raise $12,981 for Salvation Army

(KYTX) - Tyler's very own salvation army bell ringing world record holder is now resting in the warmth.

Andre Thompson spent 105 hours ringing a bell for the Salvation Army and ended up tying with two other volunteers for a Salvation Army world record.

The ringing stopped Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Walgreens on Reik Rd. and Broadway.

Thompson started ringing on Tuesday morning. He says the people who came to see him and thank him even in the freezing weather kept him going.

"There were some points where my mind was like not wanting to function in the middle of the night. When in the middle of it, like on the fourth day. But other than that, I kept praying," says Thompson.

Thompson helped raise $12,981 this week, and that doesn't include coins collected the last two days!

You can always donate at ringbells.org.
