Update: Rusk ISD investigating "inappropriate communications" between student and teacher

Posted: Updated:

Update: Rusk ISD Attorney Wayne Haglund says the parents of a high school-aged student, who has never been enrolled in Rusk ISD, approached the school district with the allegations.

Haglund says the allegations are limited to electronic discussions, such as text messages, social media, and emails. There are no allegations of actual sexual contact.

Haglund told CBS 19 that the employee has been placed on administrative leave as standard procedure with no assumption of guilt. Haglund says there will be an investigation conducted that could take up to two weeks.

Released by the Rusk Independent School District:

The Rusk Independent School District has initiated an internal investigation immediately after receipt on December 9, 2013 of an allegation of inappropriate communications between an educator and a student.

The educator was placed on administrative leave by the School District on December 10, 2013, pending the outcome of the School District's ongoing investigation.

The name of the student, who is not enrolled in the Rusk Independent School District, is not being released.
