Texas Teen Who Killed 4 Sentenced to Probation

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Victims' families are outraged, after a Texas teenager who admits he was driving drunk when he crashed and killed four people, is sentenced to only probation.

Ethan Couch's defense attorneys say he's the product of "affluenza" living with a life of privilege whose parents never taught him that bad behavior has real consequences.

Couch lost control of his vehicle on June 15, killing a woman whose disabled SUV was on the side of the road and three people who had come to her aid.

A nurse testified that three hours after the crash. Couch's blood alcohol level at that time was .24, three times the legal limit in Texas.

The victims' families believe Couch's family status kept him out of prison.

"This was one time I did ask the court for justice and for money not to prevail. And ultimately today I felt like money did prevail today," says Eric Boyles who lost his wife and daughter.

Prosecutors had sought the maximum penalty of 20-years in prison for 16-year-old Ethan Couch.

Instead, a judge ordered couch to serve 10-years probation.
