Bullard students remember wreck victim

BULLARD (KYTX) -

Students at Bullard high school said Monday was a sad and somber day as they stopped to remember Haley Lombardo. Lombardo died Saturday from the injuries she sustained in a car crash Friday. Her mother, Hollie Warren, was also killed.

It was the first day back at school for the students, many of whom lost a longtime friend.

"It's something that doesn't really happen in a small town like this," Lombardo's friend James Acree said.

Acree had known Lombardo since first grade. He said she was a good athlete, on the volleyball team, and just well liked.

"It was all over Twitter and all that and everyone was announcing about it," Acree said. "And they were like 'oh my gosh, Haley's mom just died in a car wreck. Hydroplaned off the road and hit the tree."

With the internet holding its breath, Haley passed away early Saturday morning. The people who loved her went to a memorial on Sunday night.

"Our heart-felt condolences and prayers and concern go out to the family," Bullard Superintendent Keith Bryant said. "The family has had students in Bullard for quite a while."

Bryant said additional counselors were available on campus Monday.

"It is a difficult time," Bryant said.

He said offers are coming in from outside the district to help--but they haven't been needed yet.

"Students, for the most part, are very transparent," Bryant said. "They wear their feelings on their sleeve and they tend to take care of each other pretty well."

"Just, God's gotten another angel today," Acree said, adding that the weekend had also been a lesson in what it means to be a live. "Just knowing that that could be any of us dying. It could happen to any of us any day."
